Currigee is located on South Stradbroke Island - in the beautiful Moreton Bay of South East Queensland.
Approximately 1 hours drive from the Brisbane GPO and only minutes
by water from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast and the
Coolangatta airport.
There is no public access to the island - transport is usually
by private boat, or, for most of our guests we recommend Zane's Water Taxi - its service led by Zane (who doubles
as an Elvis Presley impersonator) can offer 24 hours access
to anything touched by water on the Gold Coast.
Currigee is surrounded by native bushland with white sand
dunes and the Pacific Ocean to the east, and on the western
side the magnificence and beauty of the Broadwater - gateway
to the Gold Coast and the Pacific Ocean.
Currigee is a unique destination - there is no other sand
island within an hour of the Brisbane GPO. South Stradbroke
Island is one of Australia's unique sand islands as is the
world famous Fraser Island.
South Stradbroke is a totally natural experience an undeveloped
island with a fascinating array of flora and fauna. In fact
South Stradbroke Island is the only natural habitat of the
native Golden Wallaby.
Currigee offers over 20
kilometres of some of the most beautiful surf beaches
in Australia.
The southern tip of the
island at the Sea Wall is listed in the top ten surfing
breaks in Australia and is worth the walk to experience
the thrills and spills - you will often find professional
photographers there looking for that perfect shot. And
for those romantics amongst us South Stradbroke Island
is also one of the few places on the eastern seaboard
where you can see the sun rise and set over water.
